Ege University was established on May 20, 1955 as Turkey’s fourth university. Our university is the first university in İzmir. The first faculties of Ege University were the Faculty of Medicine and Agriculture, which were established in 1955. Our university, which has grown and developed over time, is today among the top ten universities in Turkey according to the ranking of the Council of Higher Education. As of 2019, Ege University has 17 Faculties, 9 Institutes, 4 colleges, 1 State Turkish Music Conservatory, 10 Vocational Schools, 6 Departments Affiliated to the Rectorate and 37 Application and Research Centers. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, Ege University has a total of 65,587 students, including 55,875 associate and undergraduate students, and 9,712 postgraduate students, and there are 3156 lecturers and 6347 administrative staff. With two metro stations passing through the Ege University campus, it is in a location that can be easily reached from anywhere in İzmir. Thanks to the state dormitories located on the campus and the private dormitories located around the campus, which offer students the opportunity to reach on foot. In addition, presence of sports facilities, cultural centers, museums, student bazaar and cafes inside the campus meets the social and cultural needs of students.
Ege University, since its establishment as Turkey’s fourth, the region’s first and most rooted university, aims to participate in the world of science on a global scale by producing qualitative and quantitative information, and has adopted the principle of raising culturally qualified researchers and productive individuals who consider the reality of the country and the world, and creating high added value by prioritizing social benefit with its strong regional influence. It is one of the first examples of the Fourth Generation University concept in our country, thanks to its unique model developed to make the university meet with industry and the public in the fields of R&D, innovation, entrepreneurship, knowledge and technology transfer, in addition to the quality education, theoretical and applied research activities offered at the international level.
